1. Where you are from?

I am originally from Rochester, NY but frequented the city a lot while growing up, and have been here for 12 years.

Chelsea B lingerie2. What you are into… studies, hobbies, special skills etc..?

I am a professional dancer – Performing in the immersive show, ‘ Sleep No More’ for about 4 years. I also work with my collaborative dance partner Adam Barruch, traveling nationally/ internationally performing, creating films and assisting him set works on companies. I recently did a site specific dance film with Sarah Elgart of Arrogant Elbow that was outfitted by Issey Miyake and was accepted into the Cannes Film Festival. Currently I am working on presenting my first ever solo show to premiere in June.
In addition to this, I’m an active AIDS activist, volunteering for God’s Love We Deliver, Dancers Responding to AIDS, and am starting an education in post conflict transformation work – using movement to promote healing with legend dance Margie Gillis.
So, in a nutshell I’m a dancer / performance artist, activist, feminist, coffee addict, Hitchcock blonde, who loves the ocean 😉

3. Favorite clients from the biz?

By favorite clients by far are MM LAFLEUR- working with them is to watch brilliant artists and minds at work. They are a strong, supportive group of creatives, who enjoy what they do and have a strong energy that makes it beyond enjoyable to be around. I am also astounded to watch them create, fix, tweak, and improve.

4. Dreams/goals any thing else of interest (any other dream clients?)Mp2E9PCxOV9b7mfFzf8C7krHAb5pDZyNRoux5jFJEiQ.jpeg

I have dreams of owning a juice stand on the beach someday… and between now and then I am committed to living a present and honest life of art and adventure.

5. What are some of your career highlights?

I’ve been very blessed in my career, and it’s not over yet 😉
Some highlights over the past few years would be: when I spent time in Japan shooting 2 dance films- it was an epic and once in a lifetime experience…. being asked to be part of the Margie Gillis Legacy Project… Joining Sleep No More (after auditioning 3 times!), spending residency at The Lobero Theatre in Santa Barbra with Adam Barruch , and working with Pavel Zustiak and Gabrielle Lamb on LUNA ( my solo show).
Not to mention the brilliant artists and humans I have met!
6. How did you get into modeling or acting?
I used to model when I was little- mainly for Kodak- but when I was 9 I decided to go to a ballet training school, and that became my life’s goal. Any expression of art keeps my interest and I continued to stay involved with as many areas of the art world as possible, including my modeling. In a weird way, fit modeling reaffirms for me that I am enough- something we as artists forget sometimes. I value the team that has my back, to remind me of that when I lose my way.

TALENT SPOTLIGHT: GILLIAN TODD

We’re so excited to feature Bicoastal MGMT model/talent, Gillian Todd, on our blog this month! We’ve loved having her over the years and watching her talents grow and spread into different paths like developing and producing film, starting her own company (theBlox), and more! Continue reading to learn more about Gillian…

How long have you been with Bicoastal as a fit model, print model and actor?
I  am very happy to say I’ve been a part of the Bicoastal family for going on 6 years.
Tell us about your background?
I’m originally from Montana, where I studied acting & modern dance, before coming to New York to pursue a career in acting. I had a multitude of supplemental jobs when I first moved here- everything from teaching pre-school, to working events to running my own private chef business. I have always been creative and entrepreneurial and I think that’s one of the reasons I connected with Marco, my business partner and new fiancé! His background is in writing, directing, producing, but business as well. We actually started working together and creating more quickly than we developed our romantic relationship and that’s when I got more involved in producing, in addition to acting.
GILLIAN_0540 2.jpgHow did theBlox come about?
I joined Marco in the Bronx about 5 years ago, shortly after we began our  company, Round Seven, where we develop and produce film, TV and branded content. While we were working on a Bronx-based documentary, we started to see that our Borough is portrayed very negatively in the media and on Google. Being marketing and social media savvy, we joked that we should use our skills as content creators to blow up the internet with positive SEOs about the Bronx. The notion became a more serious conversation when we started to see our area changing. We decided now was the perfect time to use content to protect and elevate the identity of the Bronx. Here at theBLOX, we like to say: Brooklyn has Vice, Manhattan has everything, the Bronx needs theBLOX.
What, in a nutshell, is it?
TheBLOX is the only new-media platform in the Bronx. It is made up of a community of media professionals, committed to amplifying and Bronx-centric, entertaining content that celebrates culture and diversity. Stylistically, think Buzzfeed, Complex, Vice, Vox…
Where and how can people watch?
Our website is www.theblox.tv and we are on all social media platforms @thebloxtv. Please subscribe to our YouTube channel to get the latest videos!GILLIAN_TODD_381.jpg
Do you have any favorite episodes?
It’s hard to pick my favorite segments, because there really is something for everyone. Of course I have to shamelessly self promote my sports segment! Check out my recent videos highlighting NYCFC and Yankees. I am very excited about and think the Bicoastal family will appreciate a couple style-based segments we have coming up. One is with Men’s Style Blogger Dandy in the Bronx and the other with Designer and Influencer Jerome LaMaar, called Stylin’ Out.
What’s your future vision?
My vision for theBLOX is to continue to create opportunities for young, talented creators in the Bronx and to produce content that will be consumed by everyone. I really think we are on the path to compete with the new-media big boys… not naming names 😉

Spotlight on Mompreneur: Malissa Young

MalissaHead.jpg

Bicoastal MGMT founder and CEO, Malissa Young, was interviewed for a “Spotlight on Mompreneur” on kristenmarieperez.com. Here she talks about her business ventures, work/life balance, and the fun story behind the creating of Bicoastal! Malissa is loved by her models, employees and many in the industry-and for great reason! Read below to learn more…

screen-shot-2016-11-17-at-9-52-27-am1. How many kids do you have?
I have three! Ages are 11, 6 and 5…they keep me super busy outside of work-but it is worth it ; )

2. What service or product do you offer?
I represent models and actors. We offer our talent castings and auditions for everything from fit modeling (that is the body behind the creation of garments-clients include high end designers like Alexander Wang and mass market brands like Macys) to commercials and even sometimes fun projects like finding the next Kids Bop kids tour singer and dancer!

3. How did you get your idea or concept for your business?
I worked as a fit model (sort of fell into it) since I was a new college grad who modeled here and there for extra money during college. My first account was Tommy Hilfiger. After that was on my resume, my client list grew to include some really exciting and fun clients like Marc Jacobs that I traveled around the globe with to factories to help perfect their fit. When I was pregnant with my second child I started measuring people to find my clients a replacement. Then referrals started happening very organically, and my very first bookings were with plus and petite models. After a couple of years of building up a fit client base, I had all of these people who were not great for fit, but great for runway, commercial, showroom… so we expanded our reach! Things continue to snowball-every day is still exciting for me!

IMG_7417.jpg4. Were you always an entrepreneur?
Yes-somewhat… I left college with an idea to start a Women Owned Business Guide (basically a yellow pages of women owned businesses so we could support each other). That didn’t really get off the ground… next I joined a children’s sneaker start up-and ran sales. Three years later we were not profiting to the extent we wanted to be and it was time to move on. I was also running my own business to a degree as an independent contractor/fit model for many brands. After my first child, I created a yoga dvd (I am also a yoga teacher) called Toning With Tots and Toddlers -link here- which I hoped could spiral into other things but it really didn’t. Finally, I started Bicoastal Mgmt! So, technically this is my 4th business venture.

5. Whats your mission?
My mission, in general, is to have fun, be happy, be honorable and have balance between work, family and maybe myself if I can squeeze it in.

6. How do you find inspiration?
Inspiration comes somewhat naturally. I love seeing things grow. I love helping people achieve their goals or dreams. I want to make people happy-so connecting people as a line of work is pretty natural. When I feel in a rut I think it is a sign to mix up the routine. Take a break. Do something different. As a boss, I hope I can also be open to my employees and what they need to work to their best ability, because everyone may feel this way! As an owner, you are privileged to make your own schedule. But part of managing a growing business is making sure your team also feels inspired.

10636670_10153408855742842_8845173203843579915_o.jpg7. What do you love best about being a mompreneur?
I love having the flexibility to deal with all of the things that come up for my and most families-and I greatly respect moms who have to juggle it all and a job where they are not as in control of their schedule. It is nice to know I can juggle things to make the many things that come up during business hours from Family Fridays to Doctor’s appointments.

8. Biggest challenge you face as an entrepreneur?
Biggest challenge is probably not throwing in the towel to live in the woods and do yoga and garden and cook and become class mom ; ). City momprenuer live is exhausting!

9. How do you use social media?
Personally, I use my Facebook to see what friends are up to and share family photos and some business news and castings. Professionally we use Instagram (@BICOASTALMGMT) and our Bicoastal Mgmt Facebook to post cool pictures, inspirations, and castings (Family castings come up all the time so check it out!)!

10. If you had just one piece of advice to a mom just starting out, what would it be?
Hard work and just taking one step at a time helped me be successful thus far and finding great people to work with, always being grateful, and staying positive. For moms looking to start a business, if you look too far ahead it can be overwhelming to reach your goals. Just take the initial step and keep working toward your goals. If it is meant to be, things will fall into place.

MODEL OF THE MONTH- ADAM LUNDBERG

We are delighted to feature the awesome and talented Adam Lundberg as our September Model of the Month! Read below to learn more about him:

aw14_lookbook_haka_large_42

Songzio3.jpg1. Where you are from?
Born and raised on the Big Island of Hawaii.

2. What you are into… studies, hobbies, special skills etc..?
Surfing is my passion. I’ve set most of my goals around having a life that involves me surfing as much as possible. I have made sacrifices with my work demands being high (not complaining haha), I see it as building my future to having the things I want in life 🙂
3. Favorite clients from the biz?
A wise person told me that one of the most important things in business is to be able to maintain great relationships and trust with people. I’ve taken that advice with all clients and relationships I’ve built over my career and it’s worked so far. I really look for and find the good in people and situations and have found that to be helpful in creating and building on those relationships.
4. Dreams/goals any thing else of interest (any other dream clients?)?forward
Surfing every day and having my house back home in Hawaii, that’s my dream. When I get to that point there isn’t much beyond that I want in life. Traveling is fun, maybe go on a boat trip to the Maldives, check out Greece, visit all the little parts of the US that I haven’t been to yet, I want to see the northern lights, bioluminescent water at night… Yea that’s it really haha
5. Career highlights?
Shooting with David Sims, Bruce Weber, living in NYC and being in the hustle and actually surviving it all haha. I’ve watched a lot of friends and people I’ve met move or get spit out of NYC in a year or two or less and mostly because they can’t handle it. I’m very fortunate I stuck it out and was able to find my way to be successful and do well for myself. NYC is not easy to live in and become a part of. So to me, being able to call NYC one of my homes is probably one of the biggest highlights of my career.
6. How did you get into modeling or acting?
My dad and I made fun of Andrew Keegan’s character from a scene in that movie “10 Things I Hate About You” after standing in a pose with his hands on his hips turning his face camera left side-profile with a semi-serious face….
“You see what I did there?”
Girl pauses unsure… ‘Uhuh…?’
adam“That was underwear…. Alright! I’ll show you the bathing suit pose.” *goes back into the same exact position as before*
“You see the difference?”

What started out as a joke about the audacity and shameless character in the movie, has now become somewhat of a running internal joke between my father and I because I don’t think I am, and definitely try not to be, at all like that character in the movie.

To answer the question, I was discovered a few years after that that movie came out when I was in high school by a photographer from Italy 🙂
